It is all dependent on one's situation. Obviously housing is better than renting, only if one's situation allows it. Do not extend beyond your means. I read above somebody making their expenses+mortgage on one person's salary. He has great hope for GC very soon. That can a wise decision. Buying expensive cars, houses, gadgets is very attractive.

I have noticed people buy stuff (not just houses) based on their present income and think they will have same or higher income. These people are working on contracts in IT companies.

Housing is not just money saved in rent and paid towards mortgage. It is maintainence, more furniture, higher utility bills, you name it. Owning a house is not cheap, but sure is better than renting only if you can afford it.

We came to US to improve our living standard, not to degrade it. So it is best to make more money and then live life. Hell somebody above gave me an idea of sailing now. I can just imagine beach now. There goes my savings.

There are 300k Applicants(conservative number) stuck at various stages for immigration relief. All of us want a reasonably fair and a little faster adjudication but none of us want to contribute, raise our voice or be heard.

We are legal-tax paying, high earning, skilled immigrants (would be- permanent residents and future citizens.) who contribute trememdously to this economy, and we are employed by employers who did not find suitable citizens in their cities/counties. NOW!. If we do not organise and get heard! we are the ones to suffer. "squeaqy wheel gets the grease".

Shame on us, If we cannot talk to other people just like us who are stuck, how can we make ourselves heard to the majority at large. IF we are not bold enough to invite our friends to join IV, then maybe we ought to get stuck in this mess.

It is time to act, organise ourselves. Time to invite our friends to join IV and make them aware and encourage them to participate in the activities like writing to editors, raising awareness, joining state chapters and fund raising.

Lets add atleast one more friend.

    Hi

I am the Susan from www.expatsvoice.org and just so you know my husband passed away last year

He was the petitioner for my son who was to follow to join. We only heard son had aged out in Oct 2005 and was getting a court case ready in early 2006.

Sadly my husband became unwell in March 06, diagnosed terminal on 4th May and died 13th May 2006

Someone posted, there maybe only a few cases but the cost is huge from an emotional standpoint

If I win my court case this may result in others having benefit who were previously denied lets hope so and stand together on this.

The grief and deprression I have suffered is unbearable due to errors, delays and husbands death

The memo in cspa clearly says that the CSPA should be interpred expansively, to me that means common sense and compassion.

Until we get an amendment to CSPA I feel there will be so many more cases of hardship and termoil to come to notice

Is there any way to distinguish contributing members from non-contributing members when they post on forums ... something like adding a field to "Join date", etc. to show whether they are contributing. This will at least persuade some members to contribute out of shame...

    Please contribute.

What if they are completely shameless?

Is this happening this year too - TSC is giving approvals and not NSC? Last Aug / September when my priority date was current - it was the same, i know of people who got approved from TSC whose PD were 12/05.

Also, it seems that all cases approved so far have an ND before 8/30/2007 so here goes again they will ignore PD and go by ND not even RD.

I am part of MN Chapter and attended the rally. It was a wonderful experience. I am proud to part of IV family and I am sure that lawmakers will listen to our voice. It was also exciting to see faces behind the IV names.

Keep up the good work IV

Can you please let us know what your notice date is.
Wish you all the very best. Are you throwing a party? or has the wait for 16 yrs killed all the enthu?

my notice date is sep 26, 07. It's a mixed feeling...the wait has killed the enthu, but at the same time, I feel good that no more visa, AP, EAD extensions, and feel that I have wings of freedom to pick up a job i like, place i like, not bound by CIS rules regarding employment, etc...

    hi there,

Just wanted to post that my husband and I finally had our embassy interview for our greencards and are back in the states approved and very happy!

Our interview appointment came very quickly, within 3 weeks of the March visa bulletin. I wish you all the same fortune and hope that the priority dates open up considerably for you all.

    My best.

My daughter aged out a couple of years ago due to the fact that my husband's labor was in process and it took about 2 plus years to get approved. Another thing is we have no options at all because our child is severely handicapped and we came here only to participate in a research and never went back as doctors advised her to stay here due to her health issues. We continue to keep her in legal status by applying for B2 visa all the time and which USCIS has been kind enough to grant it to her based on doctor's letters. I hope something is done for the children who have aged out. I even took up our case through Senator's office but nothing happened. It would be really great if IV could do something for the Aged Out Children and parents. I had to leave the job and get into H4 due to her ill health and be her primary care giver.

    Contributed to IV

This is just terrible, soemthing must be done and maybe we should all get together , exchange details via pm and try and fight if IV does not/can not/ or is not able to help us

My son was born physically disabled (cerebral palsy). He his wheel-chaired bound and is totally dependent on us. He speaks and understands everything. He went to High School here, and got his Diploma and Certificates. That's why when me and my wife came here in 1992, from Bombay, India for my son's operation and came with B-2 visas medical visa. By the doctor letters our visa had continued for three and half years, and temporary work permit for two years only. Then we tried to change our status, but that didn't work out We also went to the INS local office, they advised us at that time it was better for us not to change our status. We did not get a deportation letter. We got a letter from INS saying that had they had CLOSE our case. We all three have SSN.
My employer filed for LC in 01 and approved in 06. Also my brother filed for I130 in 01. In Feb 06 filed for I140 and approved in July 06. Due to backlog with the Labor Dept, my son is now 23. So my son can not file for I485 with me. He also can not file for PERM because he is disabled. Though he is very good at computers but who would hire a disabled person.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!

Are we just a bunch of stingy people wanting everything for free!!????
Highskilled people for free stuff? The answer should be NO!

OUT OF THE 300,000 people stuck due to retrogression, only 8500 OR SO are IV members. Out of which not even a 1000 want to commit for minimum of $20/ month. Right now we only have some 120 people committed. That is really a shame!!. Then we find a few (5 or less people) asking what is IV doing with the funds?. What funds?

Wastage of H1 visas is criminal. There should be a quota on H1 visas per company-no more than 500-1000 per company, plus percentage limits of h-1 visas to total employees in a company.Along with this if there is a simple provision as there is in other countries like england, where the spouse can work too it will solve a lot of issues.

The self regulating nature of the market is the fundamental basis of this capitalist economy. There should ideally be no quota's for anything. The market will decide the ideal number of H1Bs. In 2007 when there are a lot of jobs, then a quota of 165K would also get filled up. In 2002/2003 when the quota was 165K, there were unused H1B visas. If you have a limit of 500 and a company already has 500 H1Bs and wants to come out with a new product and cant find non-H1 engineers, what should they do? Outsource? lay off some other H1s to stay within the quota?

If you do want to have a quota, then as someone said, H1Bs should be given out on some sort of points system based on experience+education+salary, instead of the lottery. Let the more 'valuable' candidate into the country.

Agree that spouses of H1Bs should be allowed to work, just like those of L1 etc.

Life sucks with the way things are - why make it worse!!! Who cares what they write - they are probably looking for publcity - writing about outsourcing assures them more readers and more hits!!! Why let it bother you? If you are here, focus on making it big - don't let such unworthy views bother your views!!!

I do want every one to have easy access to GC. Here what you are asking does not serve any one. It only increase the backlog. If we could make them utilize unutilized visas, remove country cap, set a fixed time frame, for most part I-485 would be current allowing any one with approved I-140 to file for I-485. You might say that atleast they could get EAD and AP. But look at those who already have I-485 filed. We are all crying the our applications are there for long time. So, do you still think to have AOS even PD is not current??

Since you have filed I-485, its not going to serve any other guys...what a selfless thought. By the way can you explain me how its going to create back log.
